TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Floods hit six neighborhood unit (RT) areas in South Jakarta this evening as of 6 p.m. local time, said Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency or BPBD spokesman M Insaf.
“Six RTs in South Jakarta are flooded,” he said in a written statement, Friday, November 12.
The highest floodwater was recorded in three RTs of Bangka subdistrict, reaching 100-170 centimeters. According to Insaf, the flooding was caused by the overflow of the Mampang and Krukut rivers.
One RT in Tegal Parang subdistrict was also inundated by floodwater as high as 40 centimeters. In Kalibata subdistrict, two RTs were flooded up to 40-50 centimeters.
According to Insaf, joint personnel were trying to reduce the flood. “It is targeted to recede within a short time,” he added.
As reported by Antara, several roads in East Jakarta were also inundated by floodwater as of 6 p.m., including Jalan Ahmad Yani of Pulogadung up to 40 centimeters high, Jalan Bojana Tirta of Pisangan Timur up to 50 centimeters high, and Jalan D.I Panjaitan at 30-50 centimeters high.
The flooding was caused by the overflow of waterways and rivers following heavy rainfall. A number of motorcyclists who insisted on passing the road experienced engine failure due to high floodwater. As a result, there was traffic congestion from Cawang to Pulogadung.
