TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Bina Marga Agency prepared 67 water pumps at 16 points of the capital's underpass to anticipate flooding during the rainy season. “[We are] now on stand-by position, everything is prepared,” said the agency head Hari Nugroho on Monday night, October 18.

He explained that the agency readied three to four water pumps for one underway to speed up the suction of water when a flood happens.

The agency also coordinated with the central government, especially for underpasses under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), such as the underpass on Jalan Angkasa, Kemayoran.

“We will automatically help when there is flood water. They have also made drains and revitalized the pump. So, hopefully, it can overcome the puddle,” Hari added.

In addition, the Bina Marga Agency also cleaned up the mud sediments in the water bags to smooth the flow of water during heavy rains. Hari said it was one of the four strategies set by the agency.

The three other strategies include smoothing drainage channels, developing heavy equipment to dredge mud sediments in reservoirs, and handling post-flood impacts, such as damaged roads to be immediately revamped.
