Deputy Governor Says No Fish at Jakarta Bay Contaminated with Paracetamol

9 November 2021 16:53 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria ensured that no fish or marine animals were contaminated with paracetamol at Jakarta Bay. The pharmaceutical factory that caused the pollution has been identified.

Alhamdulillah, the results of the inspection show that there are no contaminated animals or fish. As for a factory suspected of dumping the waste, law enforcers will follow it up,” said Riza at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, November 9.

The Jakarta Environmental Agency found that a pharmaceutical factory identified as MEP was suspected of disposing of waste containing paracetamol.

“It is proven that it dumped the waste and had no proper waste management,” said Jakarta Environmental Agency head Asep Kuswanto at the Jakarta DPRD building, Monday, November 8.

Asep added that his side had given administrative sanctions in the form of a written warning and asked the company to repair its waste treatment plant within three to four months.

To date, only MEP was proven to have polluted Jakarta Bay. However, Asep stopped short of detailing further on how long the firm had been disposing of paracetamol waste into the bay.
