Jokowi Meets PM Mohammad Ibrahim to Emphasize Support for Palestine

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday met with the Prime Minister of Palestine Mohammad Ibrahim Shtayyeh on November 1, in between the World Leaders Summit at the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26) in Glasgow, emphasized Indonesia’s commitment in supporting Palestine gain independence.
According to the Presidential press bureau statement on November 2, the President said “Palestine will always be an important source of attention for Indonesia,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi also said Indonesia strongly condemns the number of violations he said had been committed by Israel. Indonesia proposed the formation of an international mission that would act as the global community’s eyes and ears for incidents that happen in Jerusalem.
Indonesia also urges for a credible and multilateral negotiation that is hoped to kickstart peace negotiations to find solutions for Palestine and Israel, or a two-state solution that would enable the two to live in peace side-by-side.
President Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya.
