47 Business Sites in Central Jakarta Closed for Violating Health Protocols

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has temporarily closed 47 business sites during June 15 to 25 for violating the micro-scale public activity restriction (Micro PPKM), or health protocols.

Chief of the Central Jakarta Satpol PP Bernard Tambunan said on Sunday, 31 of the 47 business sites were closed for one day and 16 others were closed for three days.

"Only two of them were fined Rp15 million," he said.

Bernard said Satpol PP checked 11,722 business sites including restaurants, cafes, bars and other amusement centers to see whether they comply with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are not selective (in imposing sanction). Small and large scale businesses will be subject to sanction if they violate the health protocols," he said.

During the micro-scale public activity restriction period Satpol PP also imposed sanctions on 6,019 people because they did not wear masks.

Jakarta’s daily COVID-19 infections hit yet another record, with 9,271 cases reported on Saturday, the highest level during the week, which brought the total count to 510,667.

The additional positive cases were detected as a result of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests conducted the day before, according to the Jakarta Provincial Health Office's official website corona.Jakarta.go.id.

According to the health office, 14 percent of the 9,271 positive patients were children aged below 18 years. They comprised 993 children aged between 6 and 18 years and 332 children aged 5 years and below. Meanwhile, 7,218 of the positive patients were in the 19-59 age group and 728 were aged 60 years and above.

With the addition of 9,271 positive cases on Saturday, the number of active cases or patients receiving treatment and conducting self isolation rose by 6,503 from 44,931 to 51,434.
