TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) budget committee (Banggar) deputy chairperson Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, also known as Ibas, in Monday’s House session reminded Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to prioritize environmental sustainability amid growing investments.
“We should not just increase investments without paying attention to the environmental sustainability aspect,” said the Democrat Party politician at the Parliament on June 14.
He also asked that various capital investments be fairly distributed in an integrated manner across Indonesian regions. “Investments are what I always want to be pushed,” he said.
Ibas also touched on the government’s attempt to constantly log positive economic growth although a double digit growth would be a steep ask amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which led to his statement about the handling and mitigation of the coronavirus, of which many countries were facing "second waves."
Ibas also expected the government to produce correct fiscal policies in order to revive the economy and reminded that the 2022 State Budget would be a transitional period to enter the "normalization phase" of the 2023 State Budget.
