TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno met with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto at the latter’s office in Central Jakarta on Monday, March 8, 2021.
Sandiaga said Prabowo gave him a lot of input on strategies to restore the tourism sector and the creative economy post the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to him, Prabowo has a great interest in sports-based tourism, especially equestrian. The Gerindra Party Chair hoped that the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry can facilitate it in five super-priority destinations, namely Lake Toba, Borobudur, Labuan Bajo, Likupang, and Mandalika.
“Pak Prabowo suggests several horse riding activities in our super-priority destinations and a polo field in Likupang, North Sulawesi so that there will be an integrated sports facility,” said Sandiaga in a written statement.
Additionally, Prabowo also suggested a national tourism campaign based on quality, sustainability, and culture that is in line with the ministry’s tagline, Thoughtful Indonesia. Sandiaga reiterated that it emphasized the creation of environmentally friendly tourism, from waste management to urban aesthetics.
Sandiaga Uno went on to say that they discussed a program to reduce vehicle emissions through the provision of eco-friendly transportation, such as electric trams in leading tourist destinations such as Bali, especially in Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak which greatly attract tourists before the Covid-19 pandemic.
