TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bangka Belitung Islands Governor Erzaldi Rosman asked the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno to include Belitung in the six super-priority tourist destinations.
“I ask Minister Sandiaga Uno to determine Belitung Regency among the six super-priority tourist destinations with other regions,” said Erzaldi while accompanying the minister on his work visit on Saturday, February 6.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo set ten super-priority tourist destinations dubbed 10 New Bali in 2017, as follow:
- Lake Toba, North Sumatra
- Tanjung Kelayang, Bangka Belitung
- Thousand Islands or Seribu Islands, Jakarta
- Borobudur, Yogyakarta and Central Java
- Mandalika, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara
- Bromo - Tengger - Semeru, East Java
- Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi
- Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara
- Tanjung Lesung, Banten
- Morotai, North Maluku
The government, however, was focusing on developing four tourist sites, namely Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, and Labuan Bajo. Then on July 15, 2019, President Jokowi added Likupang in North Sulawesi into the list of five super-priority tourist destinations.
Tanjung Kelayang Islands in Bangka Belitung, would be in the next list along with the Thousand Islands, Bromo - Tengger - Semeru, Wakatobi, Tanjung Lesung, and Morotai. “We hope Belitung will be included as the sixth super-priority tourist destinations,” said Erzaldi. He believed that it would boost the province’s economy, especially in the tourism sector.
