TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito, said that the government will not be rushing to commence its Covid-19 vaccination program even though the vaccines from Sinovac had arrived in Indonesia.
Wiku assured that the government will ensure the vaccine's preparedness before administering it to millions of Indonesian citizens.
"The government will not be rushing its vaccination program," said Wiku on Thursday, December 17, 2020. "The vaccination program will be held responsible and in compliance with the phases that need to be taken in developing a vaccine."
The food and drug monitoring agency (BPOM) is currently subjecting the vaccines to a number of tests while the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) continues to study the halal aspect of the vaccine. The government notes that this is important to convince people about the effectiveness of the vaccine.
As reported on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has announced that the government will provide the Covid-19 vaccine for free, which Wiku said will broaden the vaccine's accessibility in Indonesia's population.
