COVID-19 Surge; Wisma Atlet Tower 4 Converted for Hospitalization

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTower 4 of Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital has been converted to treat COVID-19 patients with mild and moderate symptoms due to the surge in the number of patients.

The hospital secretariat head Col. dr. R M Tjahja Nurrobi confirmed that the change of the tower function was made on Nov. 30, 2020. 

The government opened Tower 6 and 7 of the athlete’s dormitory complex in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on March 23, 2020, to treat patients developing mild to moderate symptoms of the coronavirus disease.

In mid-September, Tower 4 and 5 were gradually opened as isolation venues for patients with no symptoms or asymptomatic and those who had no place for their self-quarantine once they were confirmed positive for the virus infection.

The hospital spokesman Col. Aris Mudian said on September 21, 2020, that Tower 6 has 1,300 beds and Tower 7 has 1,578 beds, while Tower 4 and 5 have 1,546 and 1,570 beds, respectively.

Since being operated on March 23, Tower 6 and 7 have treated 28,975 COVID-19 patients with 26,086 of them have recovered. Tower 4 and 5 as the isolation venues, meanwhile, have accommodated 17,805 patients, and 16,625 of them have made recoveries.
