TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir assures that the private sector will be involved in the government’s nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program.
“Are we involving the private sector? For sure,” said Erick Thohir in the video press conference on November 24. “The government’s program will only be successful if the masses are also part of that government.”
He also hopes that people would be proactive in the vaccination program as a recent study by the government found 66 percent of Indonesians are yearning to be vaccinated despite the 16 percent that rejects to be involved in the project.
Despite not knowing the exact reason behind the rejection, the minister guarantees that they will involve the Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) since the vaccine’s initiation and makes sure that the COVID-19 vaccine will be halal certified and meets the global standards in terms of quality.
Erick Thohir also mentioned the critical distribution aspect of the COVID-19 vaccine which must be maintained throughout the future nationwide vaccination program, and the involvement of private sectors throughout this distribution process.
