Things to Avoid after Consuming Honey

27 August 2020 21:03 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHoney loads with nutrients that are good to help maintain a healthy body. The thick liquid produced by bees is often used as a home remedy, such as for coughs.

However, consuming it in the wrong way can be detrimental to the body, including obesity and digestive problems. Here are things to avoid the adverse impact of honey as follows:

  1. Sleep right after taking it

Some people may have the habit of taking honey before bed to maintain health. In fact, it contains high calories. One tablespoon has at least 64 calories, while sugar only has 49 calories per tablespoon.

It is better to consume honey in the morning so that the calories can be burned. Having honey before bed may accumulate unwanted calories that in the long run may cause obesity.

  1. Eat sugary foods

It is common to replace sugar with a healthier alternative including honey given its lower fructose and glucose content than that of sugar. Honey is also rich in magnesium, potassium, antioxidants, and other useful minerals.

However, it may increase the blood sugar and lead to weight gain, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, do not consume sugary foods or beverages after consuming honey.

  1. Consume heated honey or mixed it with ghee

According to the traditional Indian holistic medical science Ayurveda, consuming heated honey may make it difficult to digest as it produces toxin when heated.

Having honey with ghee or taking both within a short period of time are also prohibited. The combination may produce deleterious effects.
