Anies Baswedan Monitors Jakarta's First Day of Office Reopening

8 June 2020 08:26 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan scheduled an inspection on the first day of the office reopening during the new normal transition period on Monday, June 8, 2020. This morning, at 07:30, the former Minister of Education and Culture was scheduled to monitor the situation at the intermode integration point in the Terowongan Kendal (Kendal Tunnel), Sudirman, Central Jakarta.

"The Governor of Jakarta will monitor the situation at the MRT-KRL-TJ-Train Airport integration point in the Kendal Tunnel this morning at 07:30 WIB, "according to information provided by the Jakarta public relations.

Anies previously reminded Jakarta residents who began entering various activities today to obey health protocols to prevent coronavirus transmission. "I need to remind everyone, we are still in an epidemic situation," Anies said in a voice recording shared on his Facebook account on Sunday, June 7, 2020.

Anies said that Jakarta had entered a transition to new normal since last Friday, by starting to permit religious activities. Today, on June 8, 2020, several sectors of the economy have begun to be allowed to carry out activities such as offices, shops, industry, or even warehousing, which have begun to operate.

He reminded that the activity was only opened gradually. Because, the Capital City is not yet free of Covid-19. In fact, the entire Jakarta area still has the potential for transmission.

"It's not only in the several neighborhoods that were mentioned yesterday," he said. On Thursday last week, Anies mentioned that there were 66 neighborhood area had entered the red zone state. Therefore, don't assume Jakarta is safe, the potential for contagion is still there."

If the community is undisciplined, adhering to health protocols, Anies Baswedan added, then the conditions just like in March and April can be repeated again in Jakarta. At that time, the transmission rate in Jakarta was at number four. That is, one person infected four other people.

"We don't want to go back to a period of tight social restrictions anymore. We want this transition to take us forward, to a safe, healthy and productive condition," he said.
