TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta (Metro Jaya) Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus assured that police personnel would continue to serve the public amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
“The police (Polda) are always on standby, we have no vacations. A police day-off would only cheer the criminals,” said Yusri as Tempo reached him by phone on Monday.
One of Jakarta Police’s public services that remains open is the police's vehicle registration center (Satpas) that continued to serve people’s demand to extend drivers’ licenses.
As for the passenger buildup across Transjakarta bus stops due to limited operational hours, Yusri said the police together with the Jakarta administration and transportation agency would find a solution soon.
“We are currently coordinating with the Jakarta transportation agency to look for the best outcome,” he said.
As reported previously, the coronavirus outbreak has forced President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to issue a national announcement calling for residents to limit their public activities and commit to social distancing either at work or during prayers. This is meant to suppress the spread chain of the coronavirus.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan also limited the operational hours of Transjakarta buses, MRT, and LRT, up to 18:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) to suppress the spread of the virus that first originated in China’s province of Wuhan.
