Yogyakarta Holds Chinese Culture Week to Celebrate Lunar New Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Travelers planning to visit Yogyakarta this weekend have the option to attend a Lunar New Year event at the Ketandan Yogyakarta Chinatown. The area will host the 15th Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week from February 2 to 8, 2020.
The event was initiated by the Jogja Chinese Art and Culture Center (JCACC), with help from the City Government and the Provincial Government of Yogyakarta. The festivities will carry a theme of "Cultural Colors of Wonderful Indonesia".
“We want this year's celebration to showcase the colors of diversity, as reflected by Indonesia's abundant cultural varieties," the event's committee member, Gotama Fantoni, said in Yogyakarta, Thursday, January 30.
Among the programs and agendas during the culture week is the 'Malioboro Imlek Carnival'. There is also the Dragon Festival competition, as well as a Cultural House Exhibition.
Other events include a cooking class for making Indo-Chinese fusion food, as well as a display of attractions from local schools and cultural studios.
A performance stage is also available behind the Hotel Melia building, offering an array of entertainment from music to a fashion show to visitors. The committee is also holding plenty of competition, including a Mandarin Song Vocal Group competition.
Last but not least, the culture week will see the participation of 140 culinary to satisfy visitors' appetites.
