PKS to Anies Baswedan: Don't Pass Policy Harming Muslims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) reminded Governor Anies Baswedan to be more considerate when issuing policies related to indecency.
“Because this sparked resistance from Muslims, ulemas, and Islamic organizations,” said faction head Mohamad Arifin to Tempo on Monday, December 16.
Arifin opined that Anies’ policies, such as giving a permit for the establishment of the Djakarta Warehouse Project or DWP several days ago, must be reconsidered. Besides, various communities voiced rejections over the music festival.
The other policy was the Adikarya Wisata award given by the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office to the Colosseum discotheque. "Do not let this policy hurt the feelings of Muslims," Arifin added.
The two policies issued by Anies reaped controversy in the public. Masses from several organizations even staged a demonstration at the City Hall, urging Anies to annul the permission for the DWP music event.
In addition, the Islamic Defenders Front or FPI also protested against the award given by the city administration to the Colosseum night club. FPI chair Ahmad Shobri Lubis said the policy caused public misleading.
Sobri urged Anies Baswedan to revoke business permits of nightclubs which he deemed a hub to indecency and stop giving awards to such places in the future.
