Jokowi Calls for People to Pitch Ideas for the New Capital City

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Through his personal Instagram account, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged the entire Indonesian society to participate in the country’s development of its new capital city.
His post reintroduces the government’s plan to move Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, specifically at the North Panajam Paser.
“The new capital city must present itself as a future city for talented locals and global figures where people are able to collaborate,” said the president today.
The president also shared his views of this future city that must be free from emissions and friendly for residents that use public transport.
“The city must be dynamic, uplifting, open, tolerant, and lives hand-in-hand,” said President Jokowi in his Instagram post.
In regards to the competition that is being held by the Public Housing and Public Works Ministry, there have been 80 registered participants participating in the design competition.
