Presidential Inauguration; Police Close Down Road in Front of DPR

20 October 2019 12:41 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police have closed the road in front of the DPR building on the day of the presidential inauguration of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Ma'ruf Amin today. The road in front of the Parliament Complex is currently sterile and cannot be passed by residents or public transportation.

Cement blocks and water barriers are used to close the road's access from pedestrians and cyclists. In addition to road restrictions, an Anoa Army Panzer was placed to guard the Ladokgi overpass.

Access roads may only be crossed by security forces from the National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri). Media crew access is also restricted up until the Pulau Dua restaurant next to the DPR building.

Along the road leading to the gates of the DPR building, TNI and Polri personnel were on guard at a number of points. They formed a small group that gathered at one point every few meters.

Unlike securing the inauguration of the DPR, MPR and DPD RI on October 1, 2019,  street vendors are still allowed to pass.

At 10:46 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), around 30 TNI members appeared to be on guard along Jalan Gatot Subroto. They also patrol on motorbikes.

An Anoa Panzer was also placed at the entrance of Pulau Dua Restaurant. Meanwhile, inside the restaurant there are also baracuda cars and Polri's water cannons.

According to one TNI member, the security measures carried out were in accordance with the operational standards of a president's security class. "Because this was attended by state guests, the standard was VVIP security class," said one of the TNI members who was on guard.

He said the security along Jalan Gatot Subroto involved all TNI members and the Police. According to him, there is a guest bulkhead safety point imposed on Jalan Gatot Subroto to anticipate the presence of any intruders who intended to disrupt the inauguration. "Because there are state guests, state activities must be secured as much as possible, security applies the same as in the Palace," he said.

According to Tempo's information, the main entrance to the parliament building on Jalan Gatot Subroto becomes the entrance for VVIP guests to the presidential inauguration venue such as the president, ministers and state guests. The back door is opened only for guests who have special guest IDs and parliament building employees.
