M 5.0 Earthquake Hits West Manggarai, Says BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports that West Manggarai in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was hit by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake on Thursday, September 26, at 08:44 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT).
The earthquake’s epicenter comes from 15 kilometers off the coast of Labuan Bajo 15 kilometers Northwest at the depth of 175 kilometers. BMKG announces that the sudden jolt was caused by normal fault’s deformation.
Based on the earthquake’s epicenter and hypocenter, it can be categorized as a medium-strength earthquake. Reports suggest the earthquake was able to be felt up to Labuan Bajo.
Casualties and damages in infrastructures have yet been announced by the BMKG.
