TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tens of people staged a rally outside the West Sumatra Provincial Legislative Assembly (DPRD) building on Friday, calling on the central government to endorse the revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) law soon.
Coordinator of the Alliance of People Caring for the Corruption Eradication Commission (AMP-KPK) Randa Afrizal stated in his oration that endorsement of the revised KPK law will bolster the institution to conduct its functions and duties.
"The KPK plays a central role in combating corruption and must be strengthened. We fully support the revision of the KPK law to make it firmer and more integrated and professional," he stated.
Appointment of the chief and members of the KPK board of commissioners comes under the authority of the president. Formation of the board of commissioners must be so transparent that the public can trust them, he emphasized.
As a state institution, the anti-graft body must be able to synergize with other institutions, so that corruption can be uprooted from this nation, he reiterated.
Corruption has caused misery in the lives of the public, and the DPR must be heedful of the aspirations of its members, he noted.
In conducting its duties, the KPK can only combat low-profile corruption cases.
"The revision of the law is not intended to weaken the KPK but rather to strengthen it to combat corruption," he added.
