Jakarta Set Schedule to Hold Christmas Celebration in Ancol

December 24, 2018 | 04:56 pm

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta provincial administration planned to hold a Christmas celebration in Ecovention Ancol, North Jakarta, on January 11, 2019.

“Officials in the city administration and Regional Legislative Council Secretariat, employees in regional-owned enterprises, and all Christians and Catholics will join the celebration this year,” said the head of Jakarta Education, Mental, and Spiritual Bureau, Hendra Hidayat, Monday, December 24.

According to Hendra, the Christmas celebration would commence at 17:00. Christians who willing to join the event could attend the event location without any requirement.

Hendra said Ancol was selected as the location based on the decision of 7 Aras Church and Archdiocese, considering Ecovention Ancol could accommodate 13,000 people and has a large parking area.

“We also set additional tents and stages for shows,” Hendra added.

In 2017, Christmas celebration was almost held in the Monas field. However, the plan was canceled and relocated to JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Hendra continued Christians always hold a Christmas celebration by citing prayers which only could be conducted indoors. Therefore, such religious activity could not take place in an open space such as Monas.
