TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Messaging platform Whatsapp managed by Facebook planned to install advertisement feature. The plan, according to zeebiz.com on Tuesday, November 27, forced users to leave the platform.
The news was first brought up since Whatsapp through its official Twitter account WABetaInfo tweeted a post. The tweet gained many responses from internet citizen or netizen.
“It looks everyone at WhatsApp is leaving WhatsApp before Status ads...,” WABetaInfo tweeted Monday, November 26.
On its account, Whatsapp ran a survey with a question: “Will you continue to use WhatsApp after the activation of the Status Ads feature? Ads will appear between status updates, like Instagram. NEVER in chats.”
On other posts, WABetaInfo announced its Business Executive Neeraj Arora left the company due to possible ads feature in Whatsapp.
The issue on the presence of advertisement feature in Whatsapp was first conveyed by Vice President of Business and Marketing Partnerships Facebook David Fischer in July 2018. Then in August, Whatsapp official confirmed the news to add advertisement feature in Status tab, the second tab between Chats and Calls in Whatsapp window.
“WhatsApp does not currently run ads in Status though this represents a future goal for us, starting in 2019. We will move slowly and carefully and provide more details before we place any Ads in Status,” WhatsApp spokesperson told Tech Crunch on August 1, 2018.
