Mount Soputan Erupts, Height of Volcanic Ash Column 4,000 m

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Soputan in Southeast Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province, erupted on Wednesday, October 3, at 8:47 local time.
Mount Soputan PVMBG Observation Post reported that the height of the volcanic ash column observed was around 4,000 meters above the crater peak or 5,809 meters above sea level.
The ash column with strong pressure was observed to be gray and brown, with a thick intensity leaning west and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 39 millimeters and a duration of about 6 minutes.

The volcanic ash rain is estimated to fall in the northwestern area of Mount Soputan, and has a status of VONA (Volcano Observatory Notice of Aviation) Orange, meaning that it does not interfere with flights. The Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado City continues to operate normally, the airport’s position is in the southeast of Mount Soputan.
“BPBD is still monitoring. There have been no reports for the impact of the Mount Soputan eruption. It has distributed masks to the community,” said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Head of the BNPB Information and Public Relations Center, in a statement on Wednesday.
Mount Soputan is at Level III Status (Standby) with the recommendation for the community not to conduct activity in all areas within a 4-kilometer radius.
