Asian Games; Jusuf Kalla Optimistic Indonesia will Finish Top 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to finish the 2018 Asian Games in the top four final standing.
“We can say it’s almost sure that we will rank fourth because we have a 6-medal gap with Iran now. We will progress as they progress,” said Jusuf Kalla at the vice presidential office on Tuesday, August 28.
Jusuf Kalla argues that being fourth in the final standing would be an achievement since it is far better than what Indonesian athletes achieved in the Asian Games 2014 held in Incheon, South Korea.
However, Jusuf Kalla hopes that Indonesia’s gold medals can continue to rise to a minimum of 25, especially considering the possible gold medals that can be won in Palembang.
“That would be magnificent,” said the vice president.
Indonesia’s gold medal standing is the highest the country has ever achieved since its participation in the Asian Games. This collective achievement far exceeds Indonesia’s initial target of 16 gold medals.
The 2018 Asian Games temporary standing is still led by China with 88 gold medals, followed by Japan (43 gold medals), and third is occupied by South Korea (31 gold medals).
