TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned tap water company (PDAM) Tirta Patriot in Bekasi, West Java, had to cut their production capacity to 50 percent due to waste contamination to their water resources in Bekasi River for the past week.
"We heavily rely on water resources from Bekasi River. When the river is contaminated, our production is automatically disrupted," PDAM Tirta Patriot executive director Sugianto said in Bekasi on Saturday (22/7).
He explained that the normal production capacity reaches 420 litters per second, but when Bekasi River is contaminated, the production will be reduced.
"The cut depends on the degree of waste contamination of our water resources. It can even reduce to 50 percent from normal production," he said.
