Illegal Waste Disposal Sites in Bekasi Difficult to Control

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi District Sanitary and Park Management Agency (DKP), West Java finds it difficult to control illegal waste disposal sites (TPS) that proliferate in the area.
"The number of these sites keeps going up since we do not have the authority to deal with the litterer, and it is difficult to catch the actual litterers," Head of Sanitary Division of Bekasi District’s DKP Dodi Agus Suprianto on Sunday (16/10).
The number of illegal waste disposal sites in Bekasi District have reached more than 100 sites.
In subdistrict areas, the highest number of sites is found in South Tambun, Babelan, West Cikarang, and South tambun.
Agus went on to say that Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in subdistricts or districts are the one in charge of monitoring and arresting litterers on the sites.
In addition, Public Order Agency have Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) who can take actions to the litterers.
Furthermore, supervision and enforcement of waste disposal are regulated by Bylaw No. 4/2012. Under the regulation, it is stated that Public Order Agency is in charge of enforcing the law to litterers.
