TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - July 2016 trade balance recorded a US$ 598.3 million surplus. The number was lower compared to the US$900.2 million surplus recorded in June 2016. Cumulatively, the trade balance has recorded a total of US$4.17 billion surplus during the January 2016 to July 2016 period.
The Central Statistics Agency recorded that Indonesia’s export value in July 2016 had reached US$9.51 billion, while the country's import value was recorded at US$8.92 billion. "Our export and import values are declining, but it is still in the surplus," said Suryamin, Chief of the Central Statistics Agency in a press release on Monday, August 15, 2016.
Suryamin added that compared to June 2016, export value in July 2016 had dropped by 26.67 percent. Meanwhile, compared to the value recorded in July 2015, export value in July 2016 had dropped by 17.02 percent. In details, non-oil and gas export in July 2016 was recorded at US$8.52 billion, 27.75 percent lower compared to June 2016, and 15.22 lower compared to July 2015.
The biggest decrease was recorded in jewelry export of US$290 million (45.14 percent), while the largest increase was recorded in iron and steel export of US$125.3 million (130.82 percent increase).
Export to the United States was recorded to be the highest compared to other countries with US$0.99 billion, followed by China with US$0.92 billion and Japan (US$0.82 billion). Meanwhile, export to members of the European Union (28 countries) was recorded at US$0.95 billion.
