TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) reported that Indonesia was ranked 111thout of 188 countries in the Human Development Index (HDI) with a score of 0.0684.
Harry Seldadyo Gunardi, a senior analyst of human development and poverty alleviation at the UNDP, said on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 that Indonesia’s ranking had not been improving over the last three years.
The UNDP reported that Indonesia’s HDI increased significantly by 44.3 percent when compared to that in 1980 that stood at 0.474. However, Harry said that the annual HDI improvement was relatively slow.
Harry added that the HDI slowdown was caused by large number of indicators. For instance, Harry explained, hospital developments would not directly increase the life expectancy rate, since the rate is an accumulation of several factors, including environment, health, budget allocation and health insurance.
The UNDP’s HDI consists of four variables, namely life expectancy rate, years of schooling for adults aged 25 years and more, expected years of schooling for children of school entering age, and gross national income (GNI) per capita.
Indonesia’s life expectancy stood at 68.9, and the expected years of schooling for children was scored 13. In addition, the score for years of schooling for adults aged 25 years was 7.6, and that of GNI per capita was 9.7.
