TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Parliament Honorary Supreme Council (MKD) on Monday, November 23, will begin its inaugural session with the agenda to follow up reports of alleged ethics violations by House Speaker Setya Novanto.
MKD Vice-Chairman Junimart Girsang said Setya’s recognition of the meeting with Freeport officials will be one of the strong evidence ensnaring the Golkar politician.
In addition, the Council will consider Setya’s track record Setya that had been lightly sanctioned in the ethics case after meeting with prospective President of the United States, Donald Trump, a few months ago.
"According to the rules of the Council, members of Parliament who repeated ethics violatio can not be sanctioned lightly," said Junimart on Sunday.
"In the regulations there are also moderate and severe penalties with removal from office."
In his report on Monday last week, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said submitted transcripts - recently completed with the recordings - of conversation between Setya and Freeport Indonesia boss, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, and oil importer Mohammad Riza Chalid.
In a transcript that has been circulating, the three discussed the fate of Freeport's contract extension, the construction of a smelter or mineral processing plant and power plant projects in Papua.
