TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - Sultan Syarif Kasim II (SSK II) Airport Authorities in Pekanbaru, Riau said Sunday, September 13, that 19 flights were canceled due to thick haze that blanketed the airport.
"Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Sriwijaya and Fire Fly have notified their flight cancellations for [Sunday],” SSK II Pekanbaru Airport Duty Manager in Pekanbaru Hasnan told Antara.
He explained that the four airlines serve domestic and international flights such as Jakarta, Medan and Kuala Lumpur, while dozens more flights are on "delay" status, with no certainty of flying.
According to Hasnan, on Sunday there were 68 flights scheduled in and out of the SSK II Pekanbaru, but bad weather since morning until 12:00 pm had disrupted flights.
He explained that visibility at the SSK II airport was up and down between 300 to 500 meters, but by 10:00 am visibility was much better at about 1,000 meters.
Since September 2, 2015 the airport was continually disrupted by haze and every day dozens of airlines have to cancel their flights or and delay their arrival or departure.
Passengers finally refunded their tickets and switch to a land transports to reach their destinations.
