TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Palestinian man was killed during an Israeli military operation near Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah, West Bank, on Monday, December 15, 2015, according to a leak made by an unnamed security source in Palestine.
It was reported that the 21-year-old man was killed when Israeli soldiers forced their way into the refugee camp to make a number of arrests from within the camp—an act met with strong resistance from among the refugee ranks, said the source on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.
Israeli authorities have since confirmed that it did launch a military operation in a refugee camp, which resulted in a clash with Palestinian residents who sheltered in the camp.
A number of eyewitnesses claimed that scores of refugees in Qalandiya camp were throwing rocks towards the advancing Israeli soldiers, when one of the soldiers fired a shot that killed the victim. "He fell from the roof after he was shot by an Israeli soldier," claimed an eye witness.
Meanwhile, Israeli military sources claimed that an explosive device was thrown towards the soldiers at the camp.
"Israel's Special Forces launched an operation in Qalandiya on Monday evening, December 15, 2014," said a spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Force (IDF), Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, on Twitter. "In the resultant clash, a terrorist was killed, while others were injured or arrested," continued Lerner.
The IDF has since promised to launch an investigation into the bloody incident.
