Sierra Leone Begins Lock Down in an Attempt to Stop Ebola

TEMPO.CO, Freetown - Sierra Leone begins a national lockdown for three days in an attempt to contain the Ebola outbreak that has killed thousands of people. During the three-day quarantine, no one is allowed to leave their house. Volunteers are set to go door-to-door to disburse information regarding the deadly virus.

Officials said that around 7,000 volunteers will support the operation, including medical officers and security personnel. Muslims are ordered to do their Friday prayer in their house, as well as Christians on Sunday.

On the other hand, Medecins Sans Frontieres, known also as Doctors Without Borders, said that massive quarantine might not stop the outbreak. The organization believed that massive quarantine serves more as a acts of denial, pushing the victims away from proper medical attention.

On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that Ebola had killed more than 2,600 people. Last week, 700 new cases were recorded, spreading towards West African countries such as in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
