BI Governor: MK's Ruling Draws International Attention

21 August 2014 21:36 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Agus Martowardojo, said on Thursday, August 21, 2014, that the Constitutional Court ruling over the presidential election dispute has drawn the attention of international community and market. Agus admitted that the decision was a hot topic, particularly in its relation to the economy.

Agus said that the ruling was not only a matter of perception, but it was also related to the amount of fund coming to Indonesia.

"Financial, bond and capital markets are expecting Constitutional Court's ruling," Agus said.

Lana Soelistianingsih, an economist at PT Samuel Aset Management, earlier said that the Constitutional Court's ruliwng over the presidential election dispute would not affect Rupiah's exchange rate. According to Lana, market players were convinced that the decision would not change the election results previously announced by the General Election Commission.

Lana considered that the decision was not the only factors affecting Indonesia's market movement. She said that market movers were also paying attention to China's manufacturing sector and The Fed's speculation that would accelerate interest rate hike.
