TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In order to anticipate crimes prior or during Eid al-fitr, Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Dwi Priyatno has urged the public to be active in reporting crimes. "If you've become a victim or aware of a crime, immediately call the Polri call centre 110," he said on the Metro Jaya Police's website yesterday.
During the holiday season, the police will conduct large scale patrols. Territorial police officers assigned to a village (Babinkamtibnas) will also visit residential areas. "There is Babinkamtibnas in every village. You can also dial 110, which will immediately locate you," said Dwi.
During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the Jakarta Police have dispatched 7,200 personnel to secure the capital city until Eid. Jakarta Police Spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said 7,200 officers are on guard since criminal activities have increased prior to the holiday.
