TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A cafe that once was condemned and shut down due to its Nazi features, the Soldaten Kaffee, had been reopened with a new concept.
"The concept is a military cafe with ornaments of Germany, U.S., Japanese and KNIL," said one of the cafe owners, Henry Mulyana, on Saturday, June 21, 2014.
The cafe dominantly painted with black displays posters, paintings and mannequins wearing soldier uniforms form the World War II period. The Nazi nuance is still strong since the cafe displays two Adolf Hittler portraits, two SS images and a flag with swastika symbol.
"During the second world war, Nazi was the ruling party in Germany," Henry explained.
In July 2013, Soldaten Kaffee der Kommandantur Gross at Jalan Pasirkaliki, Bandung, was closed after protests from a number of people and foreign media. Henry said the closure was prompted by false assumption from the mass media that the cafe owners are Nazi sympathizers.
