TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, plans to visit Indonesia on September 18 to 20. According to a statement from the British Embassy in Jakarta, the prince's visit will focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Indonesia, particularly in the trade, investment, science and innovation as well as education sectors.
Throughout his visit, Prince Andrew is scheduled to meet Vice President Boediono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa and Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan.
Through a release Tempo received on September 16, UK Ambassador Mark Canning said that the prince will also attend a number of public events, including the launch of the Great Britain week in Senayan City.
Ambassador Canning said that the UK is firmly committed to strengthen their excellent relationship with Indonesia. British Prime Minister David Cameron's visit to Jakarta and the state visit by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the UK last year did a fair share in strenghtening the UK-Indonesia relationship, especially in the trade sector. Both countries have also agreed to double their trade value target to £4.4 billion by 2015.
"The visit by His Royal Highness the Duke of York will build on the momentum of these historical events, and substantially strengthen the UK relationship with Indonesia," the Ambassador said.
