TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People's Welface Coordinating Minister Agung Laksono said the government has administered compensations for the families of 17 victims of the Nabire riot. "The assistance was given by the regional administration to the families who lost their family members; the amount is Rp20 million per person [victim]," said Agung Laksono at his office on Monday, July 15.
Agung added after the boxing match riot that took place at the Nabire Sports Center on Sunday evening, July 14, the central government immediately coordinated with the local government. In addition to providing compensations for the victims' families, the government also provided free health care to injured victims at the hospital.
Agung said the government continued to monitor the situation in Nabire. The minister expects the incident, which took place at around 10:30 p.m. local time, would not spread. Information received by the People's Welfare Ministry showed that the police are still conducting intensive questioning on the six committee members responsible for the game. Agung expects such riots to not reoccur in the future.
