BMKG Advises People to Postpone Eid Travel Due to Extreme Weather Potential

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) called on the public in several regions to be aware of the potential for heavy rainfall of 50 millimeters per day on Monday, April 15, 2024.

The agency also appealed to the Eid homecomers to postpone their travel if there is a potential for extreme weather during the homecoming return flow of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri, especially for those who will pass through highland, hilly, and mountainous areas.

As outlined by on Monday, the agency announced that the regions that must be aware of the potential for torrential rain include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.

Other areas namely West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua also have the potential to be soaked by heavy rains.

In several regions, including South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Yogyakarta, and East Java, the heavy rains would be accompanied by strong winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour.

Additionally, there is a likelihood of thunderstorms in Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.

Rainstorms might also hit Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, and West Papua.

“We recommend people to install the Info BMKG application to receive an early weather warning notification,” the Head of the BMKG Class II Minangkabau Meteorological Station, Desindra Deddy Kurniawan, added.
