TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran is among the hardest countries to get a visa to visit. Fortunately, starting Feb. 5, tourists from Indonesia and 27 other countries will be able to visit the Persian Gulf country without a visa, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.
Ali Reza Bigdeli, the Deputy of the Iranian Foreign Ministry in charge of Consular, Parliamentary, and Iranian Expatriates’ Affairs, announced that the government had unilaterally lifted the visa rules for 28 countries.
They are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, Tanzania, Mauritania, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Seychelles, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Cuba, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, and India.
IRNA reported that the initiative was aimed at increasing international tourism. The country recorded a 48.5% hike in foreign tourist arrivals to 4.4 million in the first eight months of the current Iranian year, which begins on March 21, compared to the same period last year.
In December last year, Iran lifted visa requirements for visitors from 33 countries, including Indonesia. Iranian Tourism Minister Ezzatollah Zarghami said the initiative showed Iran’s commitment to global interactions and neutralizing Iranophobia campaigns.
