TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A political observer of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Syamsudin Haris deemed Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) acted excessively for walking out of the peaceful campaign declaration event.
“He acts excessively. It’s simple, I guess, Pak SBY felt lack of attention,” Syamsudin told Tempo on Monday, September 24.
Syamsudin considered that SBY walked out from the peaceful campaign parade because the public kept eyes on the stars which were Joko Widodo-Ma’ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno, the two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidate.

According to Syamsudin, SBY should not concern on a trivial matter. “During such event, who could anticipate supporters wearing [political parties] attributes?” he said, adding that those supporters not only from Jokowi-Ma’ruf’s but all parties.
SBY opted to leave the declaration of the peaceful election campaigns which took place at Monas, Sunday, September 23. At that time, SBY passed through supporter groups of Jokowi-Ma’ruf known as Projo that wearing attributes of the incumbent candidate.
SBY assessed that KPU had failed to establish the peaceful campaign declaration event because there should be no political party attributes being used during the event.
