TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transportation Ministry (Kemenhub) has partnered with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to construct 50 cluster houses for the victims of the earthquake that hit Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
“The Kemenhub together with existing stakeholders will donate for the victims. Other than daily needs, we also assure that water logistics will run smoothly and evenly,” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi today.
Minister Budi Karya also explained that the partnership with UGM’s engineering faculty will produce temporary houses that can be transformed into growing houses. He expects that the program can run as soon as September 9, 2018.
“We want the people of Lombok to quickly rise again,” said the Minister.
According to UGM’s engineering faculty Dean Nizam said that the estimated cost needed to build one single transitional house approaching permanence (HUNTRAP) that is handled by three workers within a two-day span will cost around Rp10 million.
“The location will corroborate with the Minister’s orders around the Pemenang harbor in Lombok. This must be done immediately to help the area recover its tourism economy,” said Nizam who also explained that the design will utilize frames made of steel canals and roofs made of light aluminium that are earthquake-proof.
