TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi, inaugurated the opening of the 2018 Iranian Cultural Festival on Tuesday, June 26, at Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta. It is attended by Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, the first child of former President Soekarno and some politicians.

The festival is held for three days starting from 26 to 28 June. Valiollah explained that the festival is held to promote Iranian culture in Indonesia.

"Cultural diplomacy is very important in international relations today," said Valiollah, met after the opening of the Iranian Cultural Festival.

In contrast to previous years, in the 2018 Iran Culture Festival, visitors can learn Iranian culture through new treats, namely the screening of Iranian films and mini exhibitions of typical Iranian carpets and crafts.

The screening of Iranian films is open to the public and is free of charge. Tickets can be obtained free through the livelifeindo.com website as long as empty seats are available. These Iranian films aired in the cinema XXI Plaza Indonesia from June 26 to June 28 at 07:00 pm.

On the first day of the 2018 Iranian Film Festival, a film directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia entitled Bodyguard (2016). The other two films are Crazy Castle (2015) and Where Are My Shoes (2016). The three films have won numerous International awards.

The exhibition of carpets and handicrafts can be visited from June 20 to June 30, at the atrium Plaza Indonesia 4th floor. Various styles of carpets, fabrics and Iran-nuanced artworks are displayed. Most of the items on display in the Iranian Culture Festival are for sale.
