TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said the suicide bombers at the Surabaya Police headquarters this morning was in fact one whole family.

The family was part of Jamaah Ansharud Daulah (JAD) group, which is considered affiliated with other international terrorist groups. “This group is linked to the Dita Oepriarto group,” said Tito Karnavian at the East Jakarta Police headquarters today.

Previously on Sunday morning, Dita Oepriarto committed bomb attacks on three churches in Surabaya with the help of his wife, two sons, and two daughters. Dita, a local resident, was said to have spearheaded the JAD terrorist cell in Surabaya.

Tito explained the suicide bombers at the Surabaya Police headquarters were a team consisting of a husband and wife and three of their children. Their daughter, aged 8, is said to have survived the attack and is currently being treated in the East Java Police Hospital.

The other four reportedly died at the scene and their remains have been taken to the hospital where their 8-year old daughter is being treated. Police are still identifying the suspects’ identities.

Tito said the suicide bombings in Surabaya and Sidoarjo in the past two days, which involved women and children, was the first in Indonesia. “This is the first time they succeeded to [commit their terror] in Indonesia,” he said.
