TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government is currently drafting the new regulation on the change of app-based ride-hailing companies, Grab and Go-Jek, into public transportations.
The Transportation Ministry’s General Director of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi stated the new policy will not only rule the platform to be public transportation but also the company business management such as driver registration.
“The new regulation is not a revision of Transportation Ministerial Decree No. 108/2017 on non-route public transportation,” said Budi, Tuesday night, April 3.

According to the Minister, the new regulation lets the government to supervise both companies, Go-Jek and Grab, and set a sanction should they make a violation.
“So now we have the rights to supervise them, and give them punishment if they violate the rule,” he stated.
Budi further explained the new policy is still in the form of a draft which in the near time will be discussed with the experts and related associations or alliances. “The target is the next 1 to 2 months, I expected it to be valid in a month and a half,” he added.
Meanwhile, regarding the changes of Go-Jek and Grab into public transportation companies, the transportation ministry has summoned both companies for their opinions.
