Damaged Truck Causes Congestion at Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The truck loaded with large pipeline was damaged and caused severe congestion along Jakarta-Cikampek toll road as long as 20 kilometers. The accident occurred at Jakarta-Cikampek toll road 38+450, Wednesday night, March 7.

"The vehicle cannot move, it has been trapped for more than half an hour," said Didin, one of the truck drivers when met at Cikarang Utara Tollgate, Bekasi regency, Wednesday.

He claimed to not know the cause, yet the toll gate officers informed the congestion occurred due to the evacuation of a truck accident carrying 80 tons pipe.

State-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga stated a large truck licensed L-9752-UX transporting pipe weighing about 80 tons belong to PT Platinum International had damaged at the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road 38+450 and lead to the severe congestion for more than 20 kilometers, starting from Jakarta-Cikampek Toll road border area of Karawang-Cikarang to Jakarta toll road.

Due to the accident, many cars from Jakarta using an alternative road to Bekasi caused a traffic jam in Kali Malang and Kanal Banjir Timur until this early morning.

Many riders reported getting out of the vehicle and turn off the engine. While many, as reaching Cikarang Utama toll, they made a U-turn towards Jakarta and exit at Cibitung or Tambun Toll gates through the main road until Karawang area to then re-enter the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll road.
