TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) will call the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo) on the alleged violation of campaign time. The party, founded by businessman Hary Tanoesoedibjo, was alleged to have campaigned outside the time specified by the General Election Commission (KPU).
“There are allegations of off-the-clock campaign via television,” Bawaslu Chairman Abhan said in Ancol, North Jakarta, Wednesday, March 7.
Abhan did not mention when the Bawaslu will summon Perindo but said they will do it soon.
The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) previously mentioned four television stations are still airing campaigns of political parties participating in the 2019 election. The four stations are GTV, MNC TV, RCTI and iNews TV. The stations are operating under MNC Group, which is owned by Hary Tanoesoedibjo.
The television stations broadcasted Perindo campaign ads despite the KPU regulation that stated all of the 2019 election participants cannot start their campaign before September 23, 2018.
KPI will impose sanctions on the four TV stations. The institution hopes that the election organizers will take immediate action against the violations committed by the political parties.
Abhan said in the future Bawaslu will continue to cooperate with KPI in overseeing political campaign, especially via the electronic media.
