TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of House Commission VI Azam Asman Natawijaya claimed that accidents at construction sites were caused by government rushing deadlines. Azam released such a claim due to the short deadlines for the completion of infrastructure projects.
"Government has done the right thing by assigning state-owned firms (BUMN), but when it comes to deadlines, Commission VI considers government rushing the project too much," Azam said in Cikini, Jakarta, on Saturday (24/2).

He believed that infrastructure development cannot be detached from political interests for 2019. He went on by saying that infrastructure will serve as an indicator of success of the current administration.
Azam mentioned that the government was late to declare moratorium for elevated bridge construction projects. This, he continued, cost more lives. Azam referred to the collapse of bekisting pierhead on Cawang Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) Toll road on Tuesday (22/2).

Azam further claimed that the House demanded the government to announce moratorium after the collapse of underpass perimeter of Soekarno Hatta airport (5/2).
"(However) they didn’t respond and neglect the demand and it happened again in Becakayu," he added.
