TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Manggarai-Jatinegara double-double track railway construction project was halted after an accident at Permata Street, Jatinegara, East Jakarta on Sunday, February 4.
“The construction will be stopped until the investigation is complete,” said the Operation Director of PT Hutama Karya, Suroto, at the scene, on Sunday, February 4.
The contractor has cooperated with Jakarta`s Construction Safety Committee and Manpower Department to make an observation. “We cannot enter it in now. Tomorrow morning, we will do the observation.”

Suroto said that his team will review the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the project. He ensured that the SOP is a necessity.
Suroto also stated that they will investigate whether the project was still running at that time despite raining hevily, because according to the rules of the consortium, construction work should be ceased during rainfall.
Meanwhile, Railway Safety Director of the Ministry of Transportation, Edi Nursalam, said that although the construction was targeted to be finished this year, the SOP must be obeyed.
The accident happened at around 05:00 WIB. The workers were lifting up rail pads with a crane, when it was on top, the crane holder slipped and it dropped all of the concrete rail pads down below, killing four.
According to Jatinegara Police Chief Commissioner Supadi, there were two victims who had died at the scene and two victims who had died at a hospital. One wounded victim named Zaenal (37) has been discharged after being treated at the hospital.
