TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing to hold New Year celebrations for its residents in six municipalities and districts. On New Year's Eve, entertainment and arts stages will combine with bazaars, culinary festivals, and mass weddings.
The Jakarta city's deputy secretary Bambang Sugiono said on the eve of the turn of the year a number of artistes will entertain Jakartans by performing on stages set up in several locations, including Monas, Setu Babakan, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah and Ancol Beach.
"The center of the event is on Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Central Jakarta," Bambang said, last weekend.
According to plan, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his deputy Sandiaga Uno will celebrate the turn of the year separately. Anies will be in Monas while Sandi is expected to join the events in Ancol.
Head of Jakarta Transportation Department Andri Yansyah said his office will deploy officers at traffic jam-prone areas for 24 hours. "The focus is on Monas, Sudirman-Thamrin, Ancol, Kota Tua, and Taman Mini," he said.
Andri said the Office will also provide public transportation for 24 hours, in hopes that people will opt to come in public transportation rather than private vehicles. "We will also deploy tow trucks to tow cars that break down or cars that are parked in non-parking areas," he said.
Meanwhile, the Environment Agency will deploy around 5,000 officers to maintain cleanliness around the party sites.
To secure the night, the Jakarta Metro Police will send 10,000 officers. The police will also work with the TNI (National Armed Forces) and the Satpol PP (Public Order Agency).
