KPK Questions Setya Novanto as Witness, Victim in Car Accident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police questioned DPR speaker Setya Novanto regarding the road accident at the Permata Hijau area last week.Novanto was questioned as a witness and a victim for suspect Hilman Mattauch, a former Metro TV journalist.
The Jakarta Police's traffic director Sr. Comr. Halim Paggara confirmed the report. "Yes, he was questioned as a witness and a victim for what happened on November 16," Halim said at the KPK office in Jakarta, Thursday, Nov. 23.
Halim said the police received permission from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to question Novanto.

Today, Setya Novanto was also questioned by KPK investigators. KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said the Golkar politician was questioned as a suspect in the electronic identity card (e-KTP) project corruption scandal, as well as a suspect for Hilman Mattauch in the accident, which is also related to the e-KTP case.
"We will coordinate things with the Jakarta Police for further investigation," Febri said.
Setya had an accident on the evening of November 16 when riding in a car Hilman Mattauch was driving. At that time, they were going to Metro TV's office in West Jakarta for an interview.
Midway to the station, Novanto decided to do the interview by phone, which was when Hilman gave his cellphone to Nova, and lost control of the steering wheel. The car then hit a power pole, injuring the driver and passengers.
Setya Novanto suffered minor injuries and was rushed to Medika Hospital before being transferred to the RSCM and then taken to the KPK detainment center.
